Breast Cancer Reception & Mini Women's Health Fair HeldKnapp Medical Center and the American Cancer Society hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness reception and mini-women's health fair on October 4, 2007 in the Knapp Conference Center from 10am to 12pm.
The ceremony included breast health awareness presentations by Alberto Cepeda MD, Knapp Medical Center Chief of OB-Gyn; Elizabeth G. Krishnan MD, Past Chief of OB-Gyn; Sandra Esquivel MD, General Surgery; and Daniel Farray MD., Oncology.
James A. Summersett III, Knapp Medical Center President & CEO, announced a Contract to Fight Breast Cancer allowing employees work time to have an annual mammogram
Pink flower wreaths in the shape of a ribbon were presented to:
* Ricardo Morales, Mayor, City of Donna
* Joel Quintanilla, Mayor, City of Mercedes
* Buddy de la Rosa, Mayor, City of Weslaco
The Mid-Valley mayors took the wreaths back to their respective City Halls to display to remind their citizens the importance of early cancer detection.
Also participating in the presentation were
* Letty Garza, Newschannel 5, as Mistress of Ceremonies
* Howard Bloomquist, Pastor of Central Christian Fellowship Church and a breast cancer survivor
* Salomon Torres, District Director for the Office of U.S. Representative Ruben Hinojosa, who presented a flag flown over Washington D.C.
* State Representative Armando Martinez who presented a state flag and a proclamation
* Audrey Eoff, breast cancer survivor
* Annabel Arellano, American Cancer Society
* Pastor Cynthia Ordway, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Weslaco and the Knapp Spiritual Care Advisory Committee who led a moment of silence for all the victims and survivors of Breast Cancer
