Knapp Medical Center was the first hospital in the Rio Grande Valley to offer the endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) and rigid bronchoscopy. With this new technology, pulmonologists can more accurately diagnose and stage lung cancer.
The minimally invasive outpatient procedure reduces the potential for complications and reduces the need for painful and unnecessary surgeries. This state-of-the art equipment allows pulmonologists to better evaluate the lungs with video- and ultrasound-guided technology to collect biopsies and deliver accurate diagnoses for therapeutic and diagnostic evaluation of the lungs. All EBUS bronchoscopies are attended by a pathologist at the bedside to ensure that an adequate specimen for diagnosis is collected.
Knapp Medical Center continues to be recognized for pulmonary excellence and was ranked in the top 10 percent in the nation for pulmonary excellence from 2005 through 2009.
