The Knapp Medical Center Auxiliary is an active and committed group providing opportunities to serve the community through volunteer work at Knapp Medical Center. Members also combine talents to sponsor several fund raising projects. The Auxiliary has donated over $1,000,000 to fund hospital equipment and services as well as provide health career scholarships for deserving students. The Auxiliary formed in 1960, two years before the hospital opened its doors. Members raised money and promoted the hospital in the community. When the hospital opened in 1962, Auxilians were the first to volunteer. Over 250 volunteers work in a variety of hospital departments from Nursing Service to the Information Desk---from Rehabilitation Services to the Print Shop. While each volunteer is invited to join the Auxiliary, membership is not required to volunteer. The Auxiliary has won numerous awards for its Diabetes Food Chart Community Outreach Program, a program developed in partnership with the KMC Nutrition Services and Public Information department providing diabetes educational materials for use by dieticians. Thousands of food charts have been sold throughout the United States. Another successful project of the KMC Auxiliary is the Knick Knackery Gift Shop. This all-purpose gift shop has expanded throughout the years to meet the growing needs of patients, visitors and employees. All proceeds from the Gift Shop are used by the Auxiliary for its projects and programs. |
