Facilities
The Knapp Labor & Delivery (L&D) Unit has seven private rooms where mothers labor and deliver in the same room. Adjacent to these Labor, Delivery & Recovery (LDR) rooms are two fully staffed operating rooms for mothers requiring a cesarean section.
The same nursing professionals who assist the patient in labor are also trained to assist the obstetrician during the cesarean section, offering continuity of caregivers.
Patients recover briefly in L&D before being moved to a private room on the newly refurbished Postpartum Unit, here they may choose to have their newborn “room-in” with them.
The newborn nursery is also located on the same floor, just a short distance from the postpartum rooms.
Prior to baby’s arrival, expectant parents can pre-register at the Knapp Medical Center Admitting Office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Pre-registration for C-Section deliveries should be scheduled by the attending physician.
Contact the Knapp Medical Center Scheduling Department at 969- 5478 for pre-registration.
Family Birth Education Program
Expectant parents can also attend the four-week Family Birth Education Program. Our family birthing classes instruct the family on the labor and delivery process, nutrition, exercise, fitness, baby care and pain management options.
For big brothers and sisters in the family, we offer concurrent sibling classes geared for ages 4-12. If you have a younger or older child, give us a call, and we will specially design a program to meet your family’s needs. For all family members attending any of the above classes, the cost is one low fee of $40. Bilingual classes are held Saturdays from 10AM -12PM.
Call 969-5484 to register for Family Birthing Classes.
Car Seat Distribution Program
Knapp is a distribution site for the Safe Rider Course available to low‐income English or Spanish speaking families in our community. Each family will receive one FREE car seat. Families must attend a one‐hour class to learn how to use the car seat correctly.
Classes will be held on the second Tuesday and fourth Thursday of the month from 5:30PM‐6:30PM.
Call 800-252-8255 to register for the Safe Rider Course.
