Knapp Medical Center strives to make our services and staff readily available for our patients and their families. This section of the website covers some frequent general information inquiries we receive daily. If you are not able to find the information you are looking for on these pages, please feel free to contact the appropriate hospital department. For the safety and comfort of our patients, Knapp Medical Center maintains a smoke-free environment, so please do not smoke while in the hospital. The Nutrition Services staff provides meals to meet the nutritional needs of each patient. For special diets ordered by your physician, a licensed dietitian will explain your diet and its importance toward your overall health care. Patient Room Phone top Your family and friends can call your room direct by dialing 969-5 plus your room number for rooms on Floors 2-5 and 973-5 plus your room number for rooms on Floor 6. The hospital provides telephone service to all patients, except those admitted to intensive care units. Outgoing calls may be made at any time, but incoming calls are restricted from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. so patients can rest. As a patient, you may call out 24-hours-a-day. To make a local call, dial "9", then the phone number. All long-distance calls must be placed through the hospital's PBX operators, who can be reached by dialing "0" on the phone. Long distance calls can be placed collect, third party or with a credit card. Cell Phones top The use of cellular phones may interfere with critical care equipment and the activation of alarm systems. Please turn off your cell phone in patient rooms or around hospital equipment. You may use your cell phones in waiting areas, hallways and the cafeteria.You may be reminded and asked to turn off your phone by a hospital employee; please do so immediately. Remember this is for the patients' safety. Television Service top Each patient room at KMC is equipped with a color television set with individual bedside controls. This is a free service. Your television features local channels and a hospital educational channel. Your nurse will help you access one of the educational channels. Please note: Your television controls give you the option of having closed captions turned on if you have difficulty hearing. If you need help, please ask a nurse. For your enjoyment, the following television channels are available: Channel , Station Newspapers top A volunteer will deliver a complimentary newspaper to your room each morning. If you would like magazines to read, ask your nurse or call the Information Desk at Extension 2633. Mail And Flowers top A volunteer will deliver to your room any flowers or mail you may receive during your hospital stay. Please understand that flowers cannot be delivered to MICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit). Environmental Services top Your comfort is important. Your room will be cleaned by a member of our housekeeping staff as quietly and with as little disturbance as possible. If you have a special cleaning or repair request and for any requests after 5 p.m., please contact the Environmental Services office at Extension 5273 so we can immediately address your concerns. If no one answers, dial "0" and ask the operator to request housekeeping assistance. |
