The Knapp Medical Center Medical Staff consists of physicians, dentists and podiatrists. The staff is divided into six basic categories of membership. All initial appointments to the Medical Staff are provisional for a minimum of 12 months. Once a Medical Staff member has been advanced to the Active Regular Staff, Consulting Staff, Courtesy Staff or Emergency Room Staff, they are required to apply for reappointment every two years.

The Medical Staff develops and approves bylaws that list qualifications for Medical Staff membership. Doctors who are members of the KMC Medical Staff are all independent professional practitioners. The KMC Board of Directors also approves the Medical Staff bylaws.

Active Medical Staff

The Active Medical Staff includes those physicians, dentists and podiatrists whose primary practice is at Knapp. They regularly admit and treat patients in this hospital. They may also be members of other Valley hospital medical staffs, but the majority of their practice is done here. Active Staff members are required to have an office in the Knapp Medical Center Primary Service Area, as defined by the Board of Directors.

Active Associate Staff

The Active Associate Staff is comprised of those physicians, dentists and podiatrists who are waiting to advance to the Active Regular Staff. Appointments to the Active Associate Staff are for a minimum of 12 months, not to exceed 24 months. Active Associate Staff members also have their primary practice at Knapp.

Consulting Staff

Consultants are known as specialists in their particular field. They do not have admitting privileges, but rather are called "in consultation" to see patients who are being attended by another physician. A good example of a consultant would be a cardiologist, or heart specialist, who is called in to see a patient admitted to the hospital by a family practitioner.

Courtesy Staff

A Courtesy Staff member may admit and/or treat up to 12 patients per year at Knapp Medical Center.

Emergency Department Staff

Appropriately titled, for those physicians who see patients in the Emergency Department only. There is one E.D. physician on duty at all times, plus double coverage from 12 noon to 12 midnight everyday.

Honorary Staff

The members of the Honorary Staff are those physicians who are retired and no longer practice in the hospital.
